Air conditioning filters are a critical component in any heating, ventilation and air conditioning system because not only can they help keep the occupants healthy they protect the plant. Filter selection is a delicate balance between available size, fan power, filtration arrestance ability and running costs. If a high performance filter is added to a plant with insufficient fan power it may damage or destroy the system. Sometimes a change of fan and controls are required to install higher performing filters which require testing of the existing plant to ensure success. Air Medic have qualified, experienced staff and test equipment to provide direction in this area.

We often find carrying out indoor air testing that indoor air is many times more polluted than outdoor air. Filters are generally rated using the ASHRAE or Eurovent rating. The Australian Standards covering filters generally are AS 1324 and AS 4260. Air Medic can provide independent guidance.

Filters are available that have efficiencies up to 99.99996%. These filters can arrest many microbes and pathogens. Air filters should be used in conjunction with UV lamps, fresh air introduction and an effective maintenance plan to help inactivate pathogens including microbes, coronavirus.
